Are Activision Transformer Games Coming to Modern Xbox via GamePass?

As you may or may not know, Activision was acquired by Microsoft. Although I don’t believe that the Xbox brand will continue to push consoles, I do strongly believe the future of the Xbox brand is with GamePass. Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, a question was asked, during the SDCC about the phenomenal Transformers games released in the prior two generations.

Activision Transformers Games

High Moon Studio released Transformers: War for Cybertron back in 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (PS3). The sequel, Fall of Cybertron was released two years later, in 2012 for both the PS3 and 360. What I did not have the foresight to consider was the release on the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One, both which were released on their respective digital stores in 2016. What I never considered back then, was the support for subsequent consoles (PS5 / Xbox Series X|S) and the possibility that those digital games would be delisted.

Transformers on GamePass?

I came across this tweet:

Q: Possible to re-release the Activision TF games to coincide with Gamer Edition?
A: Sadly, apparently Activision’s not sure what hard drives they’re on in their building. When a company eats a company that eats a company things get lost, and that’s very frustrating. Hope is that now that the deal is moving forward with Microsoft and Xbox that they’ll go through all of the archives and every hard drive to find it all, because it’s an easy Game Pass add. We want those games back up for people to have a chance to play.

Will Physical Media Work?

We can all agree that it would be great to have these Transformers games re-released. With that in mind, would original Xbox 360 games be usable if our GamePass subscription expires? I imagine that these questions will be answered in the future, but for now, we can take solace in the fact that these games might be possible on modern hardware, like the Xbox Series edition consoles.
