Kid Icarus has been around since the early days of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and is one of my all-time favorite consoles. I still have mine, although I tend to play games on the retroUSB AVS in lieu of my forty year old console. Other than a GameBoy sequel, there wasn’t too much happening with Kid Icarus outside of Smash Bros, until the 3DS release.
Kid Icarus: Uprising was a modern (for the time) 3D sequel to the classic franchise. I played the game some, but it was not a favorite of mine, and that mainly has to do with the way you need to hold the system. See, in Kid Icarus: Uprising, you hold the 3DS like a book, with the top screen on the left and bottom screen on the right. Additionally, you need use the stylus to as a gameplay element. I’m not a fan of this setup. I rarely like when Nintendo tries to shoehorn their gimmick into a game.
Masahiro Sakurai recently published a new video on his YouTube channel, where he expressed interest in seeing a re-release, though that would be “difficult”. He mentioned something similar last year too. Watch the video below and judge for yourself.
Do you have any experience with Kid Icarus games, and if so, did you play them on a modern console or the retro ones?
