Apparently the Streisand effect helped push Super Mario Bros. to great success. Apparently, even Nintendo was surprised.
From a translated interview from Nintendo Dream; Miyamoto had this to say:
Honestly, I’m as lucky as can be, really. There are many great things in this world, but there are few things that make you realize that, I think.
Especially with how much information flows through the internet, whether it’s about a movie or anything else, most things end up buried. Being chosen in a place where things get buried is Nintendo’s history. The point is to see how much we can do to avoid getting buried.
So even Nintendo was surprised by the move’s success. I saw it with my family and we all loved it.
I have long avoided critic reviews. Our views are almost always at odds. I look at the user reviews; the highs and lows, and then decide if I am interested.
Mario is an absolute icon. In fact, not long ago, the theme was added to the Library of Congress.
