Both the Xbox Series X|S and the PlayStation 5 (PS5) were released some time ago. People are even able to buy PS5’s now. I bought both, but many people will only buy one of these two. Which one is for you? Do you buy the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 (PS5) or a Nintendo Switch.
In this video, I break down the good and bad of both consoles. I think I am very fair here too. I give the Switch its due, but this video, on my YouTube channel, is focused on the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Both consoles feature a robust online service. Xbox releases first-run titles on GamePass, while Sony refused to do so on PlayStation Plus. Microsoft has admitted that GamePass hurts sales.
Xbox
The Xbox Series X|S does not have many of exclusive games, but it is ideal for the retro gamer and multiplatform titles. It offers “smart delivery,” which is great if you have multiple Xbox consoles in your house. The game saves synchronize across all platforms, so you can start on a Xbox Series X|S and move to a Xbox One. You can move from the Xbox Series X to streaming game on GamePass. The options are limitless. Sure the Xbox controller is not as interesting as the Dual Sense, but most multiplatform games barely make use of it anyway. I had high hopes for Jedi Survivor, but the Dual Sense offered nothing special. Retro games, assuming they are compatible with the console look considerably better and minimize the load time.
PlayStation 5
The technicalogical differences between the PS5 and Xbox Series X are negligible. The exclusive games make the PS5 stand out. Games designed by Sony even make use of the Dual Sense controller. The multiplatform games barely make use of it, although some do better than others. For that reason alone, unless it is something unique to the PS5, I will generally go with Xbox.
Unlike the Xbox, the PS5 has a minimal retro library. It is clear that most gamers do not care much about retro games on the modern consoles because the PS5 is considerably more successful than the Xbox.
Conclusion
In short if you want more retro options, go with the Xbox Series X. if you want unique exclusives, the PS5 is your better choice. Both consoles are the same price. Furthermore, you can play most Microsoft-published games on GamePass without an Xbox. If neither of these options are suitable for you, you can always go with a Nintendo Switch.
