Status of “The Witcher 3” 4.x Update for Switch

The Witcher 3 was updated late last year for all modern consoles, to include PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S and the PC. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch did not get the benefit of a 4.0 update.  This means that you can transfer your game from the Switch to the GOG environment but not back. CD Projekt RED simply stated that there would be a Switch update in the future. It’s now been several months, so what is the status of the Nintendo Switch patch?

Live Stream on Xbox Series X

The Witcher 3 was already a phenomenal game. The music, voices, sounds and graphics were already great on the consoles and PCs of the time. The upgrades for the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 were just icing on an already delicious cake.

A Portable Gem on Nintendo Switch

I started my Witcher experience with the Nintendo Switch port. The port was incredible, as the entire game fit on a single cartridge and graphics were surprisingly detailed. The Switch had an added bonus of syncing with the PC version of the game, via Steam or GOG. By the time the 4.0 patch was released, “Steam” no longer functioned on the Nintendo version of the game, so GOG was the only option. I already owned the Steam version of the game. Fortunately, no matter how you own the game, the save is located in the same place. As a result, I waited for a sale on GOG and not only got the game, but the soundtrack as well, for $10. During the live steam (above), I mentioned how I went about updating my Xbox save. The methods were released in this video as well:

A Glimmer of Hope For Switch Fans

I looked at CD Projekt RED’s site today and found this (Dated May 11, 2023):

I have interpreted this to mean that the Switch version of The Witcher 3 is going to sync with the other versions of the game. This is great news for those of us who had a poor experience with the Steam Deck.

How have you been playing The Witcher 3?
