The Best of Nintendo Direct on 6/21/2023

Like I said earlier, Nintendo hosted a Direct today, and it was great! I think Nintendo did a far better job than Sony and Microsoft, combined. There were two ports, and even more great games that are set for release on the Nintendo Switch. Despite the calls for a Switch successor, Nintendo remains steadfast in the pursuit to release quality games for the existing console.

The Ports

There were two collections announced today: Batman: Arkham Trilogy and Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection, Volume 1.

Batman is new to the Switch. There was a Wii U port of the “Arkham City” game, but that was all. The other two games have only existed on rival platforms. The Metal Gear Solid collection was a pleasant surprise. I was also surprised that the “Twin Snakes” edition of Medal Gear Solid was not used. Instead, Konami opted to use the PlayStation original.

It’s not a collection, but Nintendo Switch is getting a port of Sonic Superstars.

Mario Kart 8 DLC

Nintendo continues to update Mario Kart 8.

The update is scheduled for a rather unspecific “Summer 2023.” I usually stream the new levels with my daughter:

Wave 1
Wave 2
Wave 3
Wave 4

I will certainly stream the next one on Youtube and Twitch.

Pikmin 1, 2 (HD) and 4

Not only did Nintendo discuss Pikmin 4, but they also announced HD remasters of Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2. Both of these games were on GameCube, and are now available on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Mario Games

Mario and his friends got quite a bit of attention, with multiple games set for release. Even Princess Peach is getting her own game. First up, there will be a new 2D Mario game, called Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Lastly, Nintendo is remaking a classic Super NES game; Super Mario RPG. Currently, the most expeditious way to play the game is to track down, and play on a Super NES Classic.

The remake is set for release on November 17, 2023. I hope that the original is released for Nintendo Switch Online around the same time or before.

Conclusion

These are the games that I am excited about. I omitted some. With that in mind, is there something I missed? Which game are you most excited about?
