Virtua Racing is a formula one racing video game developed by Sega AM2 and released for arcades in 1992 on the “Model 1” hardware. The title is regarded as one of the most influential video games of all time, as it laid the foundations for all subsequent 3D racing games, and for popularizing 3D polygon graphics among a wider audience.

Virtua Racing was later ported to home consoles, starting with the Mega Drive/Genesis (Mega-sis?) in 1994. By far, the best version of Virtua Racing is the arcade game, or Switch port of the arcade. The 32X is a close second, with the Saturn and PlayStation 2 (PS2) ports following.

In a recent video on my YouTube channel, I covered the evolution of Virtua Racing home ports, leading up to the Sega Ages release on Nintendo’s Switch.
